Cliff House Restaurant

The Cliff House Restaurant is one of San Francisco’s most distinctive landmarks, and has a history nearly as long as San Francisco itself.  The Cliff House sits on a cliff at the north end of Ocean Beach. Its dining rooms and bars boast an awesome vista of the Pacific Ocean. Seals and cormorants play on the rocks a few hundred yards to the west.

A large patio attached to the west side of Cliff House offers a viewing area where one can get a closer look at the Seal Rocks. To the North, one can see the three acres of coastline where once sat the Sutro Baths.

The Cliff House patio also plays host to one of the world’s few remaining Camera Obscura, an invention of Leonardo Da Vinci. For one dollar, you can go inside and thrill to the crystal-clear panoramic reproduction of Ocean Beach, the Great Highway, Golden Gate Park, Seal Rocks, and the Pacific Ocean projected on to its giant parabolic screen.

It will only take a few minutes for you to see why a visit to the Cliff House Restaurant is an essential part of any trip to San Francisco. Don’t miss it!
