Kokkari

San Francisco California

Kokkari (actually the Kokkari Estatorio) has been called, for good reason, the best Greek restaurant in San Francisco. You will enjoy the grand décor at Kokkari as well as the classic Greek dishes every time you visit. The high vaulted ceilings and the upholstered booths combine elegance and comfort. You will see a large oven that is both striking and functional; it is used to roast the lamb. Many people like to browse around the restaurant to admire the unique décor as well as taking a look at the menu.

Kokkari features Greek favorites with Cal-French twist.  Don’t skip the appetizers, or you will be sorry; no Greek dining experience is complete without pita bread served with a variety of spreads, or pikilia. You will also want to try Kokkari’s specialty, the soutzoukakia, or the spiced meatballs which are grilled and served with peppers and onions. You cannot find meatballs like this in any other restaurant!

Of course, many customers at Kokkari are eager to try the fresh roasted lamb, which is a Greek favorite, or the moussaka, a Greek casserole with ground beef, eggplant and béchamel “crème” sauce. If you feel like a lighter meal, try the penne with capers, sun-dried tomatoes, basil, olives, olive oil and feta cheese. Finish your meal at Kokkari with slice of sweet baklava (thin layers of pastry with crushed nuts and dripping with honey) and a cup of Greek coffee.

Kokkari is open for lunch and dinner and fills up quickly, so be sure and make reservations to be assured of a place.
