La Cave, in San Francisco, California, located in the Russian Hill neighborhood tucked below the street level, beneath the below the Alliance Française, is a hidden jewel of a restaurant. Low ceilings and a European style bar and an inviting and homey interior with quaint bits of art on the walls, La Cave is an intimate French bistro, where the ambiance is cozy and warm and the chef is likely to come out and chat with you between meal preparations. Moderately priced fare populates the menu and the chalkboard specials.

 

 

The menu at La Cave is French cuisine casual serving excellent soups, salads and desserts with genuine French style. The La Cave menu includes French favorites such as coq au vin and faux filet sauce bordelaise. Also on the menu is Confit de Canard aux Lentilles, duck served upon a bed of lentils and Lapin à la Moutarde, rabbit served in a light mustard sauce. The house special, or le bouchon special maison is a hot, delicious dark chocolate cake with chocolate sauce inside and raspberries outside.


La Cave offers private parties and semi-private accommodations for business or family parties. They will also come to your home for private dinners. Located at 1345 Bush St in the Russian Hill district of San Francisco where Polk & Larkin cross Bush. La Cave’s hours of operation are Thursday through Saturday from 6 pm to 10 pm for dinners. Lunches are served from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, Tuesday through Saturday and breakfast is served on Saturdays from 8:30 am to 11:30 am.
