Union Square Shopping When it comes to shopping at Union Square it is Post, Stockton, Geary, Powell, and Sutter streets, which adds tribute to the Union square as a shopping power house. Every major department store is within easy walking distance of the square. It is also a center for exclusive couture and the highest quality fashions, with names like Dior, Armani, Marc Jacobs, and Yves Saint Laurent all opening boutiques in the area. Sutter, Post, and Geary streets are filled with fine art galleries. Union Square Theater District
San Francisco's main theater district is situated on
Union Square, where traveling Broadway and off-Broadway shows come to
town, usually for limited runs. Some of the Union Square Theaters
present amazing local productions as well. The Geary and Curran theaters
one block west on Geary anchor the "theater district" and border the
Tenderloin. At the end of Powell Street two blocks south, where the
cable cars turn around beside Hallidie Plaza at Market Street, is a
growing retail corridor that leads to the Yerba Buena Gardens, with its
own arts and entertainment centers. Union Square is also the home to
some of the fanciest hotels in San Francisco. The Fairmont Hotel, Nob
Hill Hotel, and the Fitzgerald Hotel are all minutes walk from Union
Square.
